Looking Right Back at You

This beautiful bird was spotted perching in my friend Tina's cyprus tree in Petersham. It did not seem perturbed by low flying planes and other urban distractions though he was not exactly sleeping either. Tina has claimed him as her new pet. She phoned WIRES and discovered that Tawny Frogmouth Birds are not actually owls, though he/she sure looks like one. He will eat insects and small critters from her garden at night.
The bird's gaze was remarkably curious, direct and friendly. Apparently they come to town more often than we realise, they are usually camoflagued. It is always awesome to see wildlife in the city. They come to visit us and remind us of the wide wild world.
