Brainland

This fabulous art work is by NZ cartographer Sam Brown.
Recently featured in the journal, Neuron, in an issue focusing on mapping our neural wilderness.

Brainland. Featuring...Endocrine Islands. Isle of Sleep. Attention Lookout. And, Neuron Rocks. Holiday destinations with a difference.

The data for the image was adapted from a photograph of a human brain and used to model the three-dimensional terrain. The topographic model was then used to create contour line data and relief shading and for map compilation.

Seen on the All In The Mind blog.
